A Country Pantry at Home

One of the areas of our home I get asked about the most is the pantry in the kitchen.  When we bought the house the pantry had very generic white bi-fold doors and my aunt suggested we take the doors off, what a great idea – thanks Auntie Sherry!   Even though I loved the exposed shelves, I was afraid we’d be losing valuable storage space because our house is so small and storage is limited, but then I thought why not take a cue from the way stores display groceries and line them along the shelves just like they do?  And our country kitchen pantry was born.

The table reminds me of an old farmhouse!

These retro Mountain Dew cans are so cute I couldn't pass them up!

Even though I love my pantry, I just have to share this one from House of Smiths with you.  It was featured on Centsational Girl yesterday and it’s absolute perfection!  Isn’t it gorgeous?  I’m green with envy!

Too perfect for words!

A General Store Inspired Kitchen

This kitchen remodel was inspired by one of my all time favorite places – The Belly General Store, located in the charming Virginia-Highlands neighborhood of Atlanta, GA.  I can’t help but appreciate the organic, simplicity of the drink lined shelves and the way the repeating light fixtures draw your eye upward to wood paneled ceiling.

This place is worth the visit for the food alone, but the design perspective is what I really fell in love with.  The store was recently featured in a Katherine Heigl movie“Life as We Know It” as the  store/restaurant she owned, and I remodeled my entire kitchen with it in mind!

Notice the grocery lined shelves?  I couldn’t help borrowing (ok, stealing) that idea!

A couple of benches and a few Gerber Daisies add to the country charm.

Before my kitchen was a sea of basement worthy tile and pickled pink cabinets, but now it has the warm feel of a laid back general store.  With a minimal budget and a few store inspired tricks, I was able to bring a little bit of one of my favorite places home.
