A Simple Chair

A few years ago I was packing for an extended trip abroad.  A good friend gave me some advice I’ll never forget.  She told me to “pack every single thing you think you’ll need, then take out half and you’ll be good to go.”  That is the advice I use when I approach design.  I take all the elements I think I’ll need to define the space, then I take away half of those elements to create a relaxed, peaceful vibe that isn’t cluttered or over-designed.

This photo is a perfect expression of my design perspective.  An IKEA chair for less than $250, a beat up, old $40 table on casters, a cozy pillow and throw and simple accessories including an old root beer bottle and a single Gerber Daisy. Design doesn’t have to be expensive to be beautiful!
